Ahn Youngkeun, Chairman of the Korean Society on
Thrombosis and Hemostasis
I am very happy and honored to serve as the chairman of the Korean Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis, which I have shared with and through for a long time.
Established in 1991 for the purpose of exchanging academic information and promoting research by basic scientists and clinicians related to hemostasis and thrombosis, the society has achieved remarkable growth over the past 30 years based on the participation of many members. In particular, the Asia-Pacific Society for Thrombosis and Hemostasis, which was held in March 2021 after hard work, received a warm response, with about 800 participants from 32 countries participating. It became an opportunity to raise the status even more.
Although our society has accumulated outstanding achievements as a leader in research in the field of thrombosis and hemostasis at home and abroad, there are still many challenges to be researched and resolved. Problems such as a rapid increase in the number of patients due to changes in diet and lifestyle and an increase in the elderly population, the occurrence of congenital bleeding abnormalities such as thrombocytopenia and hemophilia, and the occurrence of various thrombotic diseases due to the spread and prolonged COVID-19 pandemic It is an element of anxiety that threatens daily life. In order to prepare preventive methods for these diseases and implement professional treatment, we believe that the active support and participation of our members in research is more urgent than ever.
As the chairman of the Korean Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis, I promise to make the following efforts for the growth and development of the society together with the chairman.
First, as most of the members of our society have various major fields and fields of activity, we will promote diversification of academic programs so that each member's knowledge and opinions can create a wonderful synergistic effect through the society. We will do our best to improve the level of academic programs and increase the participation rate by allowing members to discuss not only basic knowledge sharing, but also clinical practice guides and clinical points that can be controversial. In addition, we will make efforts to create programs that encourage young members to participate by utilizing various contents.
Second, we will build a database for smooth information sharing and build a foundation that enables active exchanges and mutual development among members by reorganizing human networks.
Third, we will make efforts to increase the public's understanding of thrombosis and hemostasis by planning and implementing various projects, including the 'Blood Closure Day' event that the society has previously held. In addition, we will select the thrombotic and hemostatic diseases that people are most interested in and produce guidebooks to actively provide essential information to promote public health.
Fourth, to promote research, we will expand support for overseas academic societies, promote diversification of academic awards, and strive to actively conduct multi-institutional research that is currently in progress.
We hope that our society, which has reached a critical turning point in the wave of the 4th industrial revolution and the COVID-19 pandemic, will be able to contribute to the promotion of national health and the development of medicine based on the active participation and interest of all members.

Thrombosis and Hemostasis
This society is attended by clinicians and scientists working in various fields such as hematology-oncology, cardiology, respiratory medicine, pediatric adolescent medicine, diagnostic inspection medicine, neurology, surgery, anesthesiology, and basic science, and it has tried to identify the causes of thrombosis and bleeding diseases and to develop and standardize effective prevention, diagnosis, and treatment accordingly. Over the past 30 years, the society for thrombotic and hemostasis has developed with the dedication of its excellent senior members and the active participation of its members. However, the number of patients with arterial and venous thrombosis disease in Korea is increasing every year due to recent changes in diet and lifestyle changes, and the increase in the elderly population and, as the diagnosis and treatment methods of various bleeding disorders develop, the role of the society is growing in importance.
In addition, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the previous executive branch, the Asia-Pacific Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis was successfully held in March 2021, providing a great foothold to contribute to the development and internationalization of the society. In addition, there was an opportunity to raise the status of the society by performing vaccine-related service tasks to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic that began in 2019. I will focus on promoting and supporting the following matters during my term so that this society can continue to develop in line with the trend of this era and that members can feel the worth and value corresponding to their efforts.
First, I will continue to provide administrative support from the society to successfully carry out and complete the COVID-19 vaccination-related rare thrombosis disease monitoring system, a service project of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency that began in 2021. It is a major task that is intertwined with the health and safety of the entire population and, furthermore, the growth of the national economy and various fields, and I will take into account the efforts of the overburdened government and local government administrative and epidemic prevention personnel, and support the advisory committee members and inspection project team members who are striving to thoroughly fulfill the role they can play in the academic society.
Second, a total of seven academic committees have been established so that the multi-disciplinary system, which is a characteristic of this society, can gather and act as an academic committee. I will try to listen to the voices of the chairmen, secretaries, and members of the basic branch, arterial thrombosis branch, intensive care branch, venous thrombosis branch, diagnostic test branch, blood coagulation branch, blood disease branch committee, I will strive to establish a system that supports various types of academic activities such as academic chat meetings and multi-institutional joint research.
Third, I will conduct various activities through external cooperation work to attract the conference of the World Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis in Korea in 2027. I will continue to support the participation of members who can promote the domestic venue at various overseas conferences held every year, and do my best to expand the academic award to adopt the subject for supporting it and promote presentation.
Fourth, I will try to improve people's understanding of thrombosis and hemostasis through thrombosis day events and various hemostasis-related events so that the society can take the lead in striving for the health of the people. In addition, I will try to select diseases related to thrombosis and hemostasis that are of high interest to the public and produce guides or videos so that the public can strive for prevention.
Lastly, I would like to open the society office in Seoul for the first time this year so that it can be used as a space for members' academic activities and video production except for work hours, so please participate in the application and use.
I ask for your active participation so that the society on thrombosis and hemostasis can continue to develop with your interest and efforts.
