Introduction of the Society

The Korean Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis strives to develop and standardize effective prevention, diagnosis, and treatment methods by identifying the causes of various diseases that lead to vascular disorders, including not only bleeding disorders but also arteriosclerosis and venous thrombosis brought on by lifestyle changes. The Society is dedicated to the exchange of academic data and the promotion of research among basic scientists and clinicians in the field of hemostasis and thrombosis.

The Korean Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis advances studies related to blood coagulation and vascular physiology, such as thrombosis and hemorrhage. The Society was founded with the purpose of creating a forum for discussion and active knowledge exchange among researchers in wide-ranging basic and clinical science-related fields, and providing guidelines for research and clinical practice. As a strategy to secure a competitive edge in the international setting, we have established a close cooperative system with the Japanese Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis(JSTH), and are playing a pivotal role in the Asia-Pacific Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis.

The Korean Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis consists of seven specialized academic subcommittees (Blood Coagulation Subcommittee, Venous Thrombosis Subcommittee, Arterial Thrombosis Subcommittee, Basic Subcommittee, Blood Disease Subcommittee, Critical Care Subcommittee, and Diagnostic Test Subcommittee). Each subcommittee gathers a small panel of experts to support academic activities, regularly hold academic conferences, publish academic journals. and partake in other activities such as venous thrombosis training lectures (co-host) and World Thrombosis Day events.

The recent increase in the number of patients with arterial and venous thrombotic diseases in Korea, the development and use of new antithrombotic agents, and the remarkable advancement of treatment for congenital bleeding disorders such as hemophilia are an urgent signal for the Society to press on even harder in terms of prevention, professional treatment and basic research for these diseases.
